No FWD or R after overdrive fix

I'm new here and am looking for help. I bought an 04 f150 5.4l with a 4r75e and the overdrive was already out on it but it ran and drove. So i repaired the overdrive servo with no issues, pulled the valve body and found no pieces in the valve body. Put it back together with a new filter, filled it up and then had no forward gears or reverse.

Thinking I messed something up I pulled the valve cover, verified the filter and gasket were in place, pulled the valve body and checked location of all of the check *****. The only problem I overlooked the first time was a crack in the separator plate. I ordered a tuff plate and new gaskets, installed with making sure the check ***** where correct, filter and gasket where fully seated, the shift spool was in the correct groove, torqued the valve body and filled only to the correct level on the dipstick with merconV.

Start the engine and the fluid isn't even being sucked down. I've attached a gauge to verify line pressure and I have 0 psi. Obviously the pump is not even moving any fluid. Is it just coincidence and now it's time for a rebuild? I doubt it and believe I am just missing something. I've pulled the valve body once more before i decide to tear out the trans. Even with the vb removed you can tell its dry in the pump passages. I thought I could use a few more opinions before i dump un-necessary money into this thing. Please if any body has some helpful ideas I'd appreciate it, thanks everyone.

Are you sure the old filter gasket isn't still in there?

Yes, several times. I have the valve body off right now and can even mock up the filter in the valve body.

What happened here ? I’m having a similar problem with my truck. My truck randomly stopped shifting while driving up hill almost like I accidentally hit the shifter into neutral. I pulled over and checked the trans fluid which seemed spot on after driving for 45 minutes and checked the shift linkage which was fine. I ended up pulling the pan and filter which checks out fine. Pulled the valve body and all the valves move freely and check ***** are in the proper place and in good shape. The only thing I didn’t do was check the line pressure which I probably should have. I have no fault codes or dash warning. And prior to this the transmission had 0 issue. Did you end up finding a failed pump? If anyone has some idea I would appreciate it incredibly.

If you have neither forward nor reverse gears SOMETHING mechanical failed inside the trans. How much time and money do you want to spend to diagnose this before pulling the trans? Nothing electrical could cause this, something mechanical broke.

That was my fear. So I guess my next question is, who do I use for a reman? Mark what is your opinion on Monster transmissions and sonnax direct drum upgrades? Would it be worth the money to upgrade or just destined for more headaches?

I apologize if this stuff has been asked before I’ve searched around for concrete advice and it feels like I’m chasing my tail.
