2006 F150 FX4 Round disc on top of valve body??

So I just bought a truck that had a fresh, "rebuilt" tranny. Of course 1 month later I go to reverse up my driveway and NOTHING. Absolutely disappointing, but hey what you gonna do. I did the obvious checks and realized I have no choice, but to open it up and likely rebuild. I was a mechanic for 11 years so I decided I'm going to tackle this trans rebuild myself. Unfortunately all my experience is with Mercedes. While doing the tear-down I noticed something that didn't seem right. 2 bolts were almost falling out of these round metal disk on top of the valve body. Does anybody know what these disk do? My guess is they control flow to various circuits? Is one of them reverse? I got to my reverse band, and it has no friction material left at all! I'm trying to avoid a mistake or earlier failure.

I circled the 2 bolts. They looked just like that when I removed the valve body
