4RW70 -- Case burnt ??

I'm going to rebuild my 4RW70. This is my first preliminary question ?

In gathering info I spoke to a shop. He said "if the case is burnt up, have to get a new (salvage) case"

During the tear - down what am I looking for that would be a burnt up case ? I've looked at about 20 YT videos. No one has mentioned anything about this condition.

I've never heard of a burnt up case. A case can get damaged if something fails inside the trans and damages the case.

Check the bore in the rear that the 3 sealing rings ride in. Check the OD servo pin bore with the servo pin to make sure there isn't excessive clearance. Check the accumulator and servo bores for wear that might keep them from sealing. Make sure all gasket surfaces are clean and undamaged. Check the valve body surface with a very flat straight edge across all directions to check for warpage.

That's my basic procedure.
