94 F-150 XLT 5.0 tranny Interchangeability

Well let me say don't trust the people at Pick & Pull to give you the right vehicles to for the interchangeable trannys! So that's why I'm here cause I couldn't find what I needed on the web. I've read some of the threads here and y'all know what y'all are talking about. So here it is.....I know I have a 4R70W with a trans code of "U"! I have 2 questions: 1st will all trans code "U" trannys work including the Expedition? And 2nd is out right what other year models will fit in my 1994 without any modifications? Thank you in advance and hope y'all can give me a solution. Reason being my wife is tired of me using her car for work; and a happy wife means a happy life!

You need one that comes from a 5.0L. Most 4R70Ws, which will all have the "U" code, have a modular engine (4.6L) bellhousing. These will NOT bolt to your engine. And you also need to get the same drive, i.e., 4x4 or 4x2.

So what you're saying is all U Types will fit as long as it has a 5.0 engine?

As long as it's out of a 94-96 F-150 with a 5.0 and the same drive type - 4x2 or 4x4. One out of a 97-04 F-150 with a 4.2 V6 with the same drive type will bolt up, but may require some electrical and sensor modifications.

Have you considered pulling yours and getting it rebuilt?
