Transmission Service

Hey All

I have an 06 FX4 5.4 with 107k miles on it, when I boughtt it it had 49k on it.
Now I am wanting to get the transmission serviced (change fluid filter clean pan etc) I have not serviced the trans since I bought it and dont know if it was serviced prior to me buying it. I have a buddy who tells me that it may not be a good idea due to the fact that debris could get kicked up and really do some damage to it. his rationale is since i havent serviced it, its probably best to leave well enough alone...any thoughts?

would you say that the concern of debris getting kicked up and clogging a fluid channel or something to that effect is valid? or is it BS? because with that thinking then I should never change my oil for the same reason..

Dropping the pan, cleaning it out and installing a new filter can't kick up anything. If you disconnect a line at the radiator and pump the fluid out stopping to add clean fluid as necessary doesn't sound like it can kick up anything either. The advice is unanimous so far. It's your truck and your money. Do whatever you want.
