Tranny swap

Hi...i want to swap out my e40d with a 4w70r i found one out of a 93 f150 which is the same year as my truck...i dont have too much mechanic smarts but i want my truck to go faster...i heard these can be built almost bullet proof...i dont pull anything so i dont care about that...so can i plug and play with this or is there a lot to do to get it to fit and work right...any info is appreciated.

It's not plug and play due to the electronics. You would be better off rebuilding the E4OD if it needs it, it's a stronger transmission than the 4R70W. A 4R70W certainly won't make the truck go faster.

You sure the 4R70W is out of a 93? I though the first year was 94. 93's still had the non-electronic AOD if it didn't have a E4OD.

Yup, stick with the E4OD. It's heavier, but it's also strong.

That swap would be too much work for little to no reward.

To me this sounds like not so much an issue with the transmission. It's either a build issue or something is wrong somewhere that is being missed. Done right that E4OD is a stout option.

You know the E4OD/4R100 is pretty strong when Ford put them behind 7.3 turbodiesels, Lightnings, and 460's. Maybe you need a ZF manual conversion.........
