O/D Off light stays on

I searched a bunch of threads and only found info on the light flashing, which I knew meant it had a code that needed to be read. My light however stays illuminated, while the truck is still in overdrive. My plan is to take it too a tranny shop and have them read the code, I'm assuming that there is a code to be read. Does anybody have any experience with the light staying on?

2002 F-150 5.4 with a 4R70W. She has about 165000 on the clock.

I have seen the light stay on. It was the wire to the light wore through inside the steering column where it enters the shift handle. Fairly common and not too hard to fix. Take the plastic cover off of the steering column and either fix the wire or replace the shift handle.
