05 FX4 transfer case filling with transmission fluid

There must be a seal between the transmission and transfer case that is leaking because I noticed my transmission level low with no external leaks, then today I was servicing my transfer case and notice it was WAY overfilled. I drained about 4-5 quarts out of it. I believe it should only have 2 qts. My question is how hard is it to pull the transfer case and can the trans. seal be replaced without removing the transmission?

Yes, there is a seal between the TC and tranny that can leak. This is not uncommon.

In the manual, it's a 4 page 19 step process to remove the xfer case. You need to get a manual and take a look. Mine is a book and I have no way of scanning it. By the way, I bought my 3 book manual set on ebay for about $85 plus about $10 shipping.

Check your local library for a shop manual.

It's pretty straight forward. The book does tell you to mark your drive shafts before removing them so you can install them in the same orientation.

Once the xfer case is removed, I assume you can R&R the tranny seal with no further dis assembly.
