extended warranty and transmission flush
extended warranty and transmission flush
I recently purchased a truck with 101k miles. Since it has so many miles I allowed the dealer to talk me into an extended warranty. I understand that a fluid flush on a high mileage transmission can be a risky proposition and I do not have the maintenance history on this truck. I was advised by a dealer that it may not be a good idea to have the flush done or even a change of fluid because of the high mileage. I understand the reasons why but since I have warrany I am considering getting the flush anyway and if a problem arises I will have the transmission repaired or replaced under warranty. I would like to expose any issues earlier rather than later and IF the transmisson had been neglected I feel that forever ignoring a fluid change on a truck I just purchased is somewhat unwise. (I have not taken it in yet to even have the fluid checked) My warranty states the following:
Automatic/Standard Transmission and Transfer Case: All
internally lubricated parts contained within the transmission
case, torque converter case or transfer case. Transmission case,
torque converter case, transfer case and external cover(s) and pan(s)
if damaged by the failure of an internally lubricated part. Coverage is
not afforded for standard transmission clutch assemblies or any of their
component parts. Dipstick and tube
It appears that I am covered here. Can I get some opinions on this? It is an automatic transmisson btw.

Do not get a "flush". Get a "fluid exchange" with a machine. This is done with the engine running and uses the tranny pump to pump the old fluid out and draw the new fluid in. Do not use chemicals, do not use a machine that has its own pump.
Thank you glc. I thought a fluid exchange was what is called a flush. I have never had a flush or exchange done on any vehicle I have owned so I did not know the difference. I don't keep them around long enough to have a flush or an exchange done. Due to changes in my financial situation, I bought this truck with high miles because it was the only way I could justify owning a King Ranch because of the relatively cheap price on it.
I am thinking of having my tranny fluid done to. I am about to roll over 110k and i just bought it recently. If i call the dealer and tell them i want a fluid exchange will they know what i mean? i also got a letter from ford saying my truck is due for a recall free of charge. some hose i think.
I like auto RX. I ran it through my truck that has 135k on it and it feels like it shifts better. If you haven't already changed the fluid I would buy the auto RX and treat the old fluid before you change it. Auto RX recommends a new fluid and filter service 2000 miles after treating the old.
