4R70E slipping?

I've noticed that on some occasions when I accelerate hard, the truck kind of hesitates. It feels like it's losing traction, but I can't hear it. Is this a symptom of a tranny reaching the end? I've read several reports of 4R70E's going out in the 30,000 mile range on the 04-06's.

Watch your tach when it does it and see what the engine is doing. I have heard this complaint before where it turned out to be traction control doing something the driver wasn't expecting, but that probably isn't it in this case.

Do F150's even have traction control? I'm running an 87 performance tune from PHP.

Would the tach go up really high then drop when it "catches", so to speak?

If it's slipping you will see a higher than normal rpm for the speed on the tach. If you aren't used to what your truck does or what to look for then it might be difficult to get a handle on that you are looking for. But, normal operation, even on an open converter, will feel quite a bit different than slippage.

Well my RPM's are higher than normal, but that's because of the 4.30's I had installed last week. The only difference I feel on hard accelerations (pedal to the metal) is a hesitating feeling. It only does it for a brief moment, then goes through the rest of 1st fine. Could the torque management have been specifically calibrated for the original 3.55's?

I don't think it is your tranny. Is your tranny tuned as well, or just the engine? If you tune your transmission to shift firmer, torque management is altered or completely removed from the equation for the most firm, or race shifts.

I tried to replicate the hesitation I had been feeling earlier, and was also trying to see if it did it with the stock tune. Couldn't do it with the stock tune or the 87 performance tune. Maybe it's possible that I was losing traction but just couldn't hear it?

Possible. Different tires are just different. With your loud pipes you may not hear them spin on some types of assault.

Final update:

Turns out it was just traction loss, but was utterly silent with the windows rolled up. Was able to tell today. I feel like a derp.
