Woke up this morning to drive truck and it wouldnt go in reverse.

I got these codes from the edge

P2106
P0720
P0722

research up here has led me to believe the sun shell weld ?


I drove the truck and it has all forward gears


I looked under the truck and noticed this. Is that normal or should there be a plug? I can see the flywheel

Yea bud you are missing a plug

 

thanks man.. I cant see why my Reverse is gone.. no fuild leaked out of that hole . From what I have read it is just a dust cover..

Im going to replace the Output shaft speed sensor and give that a shot

 

it goes into reverse but doesnt have much power, 3000 rpms before it moves

 

BTW I looked over all 34 pages on the Tranny threads..

 

my 04 2wd does not have the plug either

 

after more reading I'm thinking its the sun shell weld. I know a shop that will pull tranny and put it back in it for $250 labor. I just got to get the tranny fixed at a shop..

 

Got the sensor on the way... Lets see what happens

 

well it was the wrong sensor.. didnt fit.. Im thinking more and more that it is internal. Im going to try again to get the right sensor and then if not looks like Im going to drop tranny and bring it into a shop..

 

I got your message and that is definitely internal. No matter what happens electronically you will always have at least one forward gear and reverse unless there is a severe mechanical issue.

Thanks.. I guess Im going to start working on pulling the tranny this afternoon. I can prob manage to pull it myself but rebuild it is a different story....lol

 

well got the whole tranny rebuilt...The issues was the tranny got real hot and when it cooled some stuff welded together. I will post some pics of the parts here shortly. But while the tranny was open I went ahead and droped an extra 600 dollars in parts to replace anything that could fail in the near future..

I dont know if the fact it has had 35" tires on it for 60,000 miles with 3.73 gears was part of the problem. Also who knows how hard the first owner was on the truck. But after dropping this much money into it, I plan on keeping this truck for a while (or until I have a boat then its time for a F-250.)

 

The plug is removed so you can change the fluid in the torq. Most Ford have a plug on the torq to Drain. All the rubber plug is to cover that hole and act as a dust cover.

 

Only till some time in (I believe) 2001.

 

Got so hot it was welded its self to plate...was hard to get out
