what tranny do i have?

how can you figure out exactly which tranny is in your truck???where is the tranny code?

ok i figured it out i have the 4r70w.........can i use the E40D as a replacement in the truck without alot of screwing around will it just bolt right in?

i have ONLY reverse....no forward gears at all......

To use the E4OD you'll need to change the computer, wiring, transmission mount, and driveshaft. Make that two driveshafts if it is a 4x4.

For 1997 to 2003, it should be in the trans code area of the build sticker. It will have either one of the following:

For the 4R70W you will see a "U" under trans code.
For the 4R100 you will see an "E" under trans code.

Also, for the OP, the problem you are experiencing is either a worn or damaged forward clutch. It is either a hydraulic problem or a mechanical problem that requires a complete rebuild to fix. Sorry for the bad news.

E = E4OD in your model (97-98), not 4R100. The 4R100 wasn't until 99. Same trans, -very little changes
