Unhappy Yellow plunger

I too found a yellow plunger when changing my trans fluid. I thought for sure something was broken. Luckily I ran up to log on to this site and found my answer. So i finished my job just before dark and I am up and running again. Reason i changed my fluid is I have a low dry metal whiring squeking sound when going around 40 mph. I only have 21,000 miles on my 2007 f 150 4x4.
It is 1 month out of warranty!!!!!!
Anyway, I think i have ruled out brakes, wheel bearings, since the noise goes away or changes tone when truck shifts to lower gear. It reminds me of the sound the speedometer cable would make when it needed grease. However these trucks now have digital speed/tachs. I found the magnet in trans pan to be covered in a thick gunk that seemed to be like grease with carbon/brake dust mixed with it. Any ideas if this was grease from factory to hold particles or could this be sludge and grindings from my trans.

I know you're new and all, but the search feature is here for a reason and answering the same question every couple of hours is getting quite lame

How thick is the "gunk"?

That magnet is there for catching magnetic remains. It is perfectly clean from the factory, but after more than 20k miles it is going to have maybe up to 1/8in coating all over it. If the magnet looked like a sludge blob where you could hardly determine that it had a hole in the center of it then you are in trouble. If it was just coated and the coating was basically black instead of completely metallic colored and there weren't metal chunks then you are probably looking at normal wear.

It was covered about 1/8" thick and hole in center was full. Hopefully this means normal wear as you suggested. thanks alot for reply. The noise however did not go away after changing the fluid last night. Any ideas what i might look into next?

It does sound a little excessive. Wish you had a picture.
