Question What ATF to use?

Hello;
I own an 2006 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat, it has 50,000 miles, I have to make the oil/fluid change of the transmission, but what ATF is better to use?: OEM Motorcraft Mercon V or Mobil1 Synthetic ATF (which meet the specification Mercon V), what do you recommend?

How often should be the ATF replaced?

Is it a good option the method of the Transmission Oil Exchange Machine?, which is mostly used on the fast-service lube stations.

I will appreciate your advises.
Best regards,
J.Leal.

Hello!

Either one is fine.

Some folks swear by Amsoil ATF: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx

Good luck!

And I prefer synthetic all of the time for both engine and tranny. Kind of depends on what you want to spend. like he said^ either should be fine. Most quick change stations (if any) will not use Synthetics. They cost to much.

Most places I know will use whatever you want if you provide it. I replaced my tranny fluid with AMSOIL all I had to do was to supply the fluid, they will use it in their machine

The best value is to stick with OEM Motorcraft Mercon V. Just like with Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic Motor Oil, you can afford to change it regularly & more often. For added protection & peace of mind, you can go with aftermarket synthetics. I've used several different types in my Ford transmissions over the years and have found good results with Lucas Oil, Red Line, & Royal Purple. Given a choice, I tend to favor the Red Line High Temp formula.

What's your fluid change interval? How many miles between changes?
