what seal is this?

and how hard is it to replace? What fluid is coming out of the seal ATF Mercon V?

I think I need a longer driveshaft with the amount of play in that. I was quoted 350 Canadian for a custom made steel one. I think I will go with it after i get this seal fixed up.

More lift, more problems

That is the rear extension housing seal and with the driveshaft out it's a breeze to replace. Knock it out and press in the new one. You can do it in the vehicle with ease.

sweet thanks! Fluid is leaking through but what is it? I am assuming atf at the transfer case? I think you can top it up at the transfer case so I will do that after i get confirmation on what it is exactly

Oops, didn't pay attention. With a 4wd that isn't the extension housing seal. It's the rear seal for the transfer case. Still easy to replace.

Yes that fluid is Mercon transmission fluid.

It is the transfer case extension housing seal. While you are replacing it, you have to pull the driveshaft, examine the slip yoke for damage. The bushing in the extension housing might be worn too. The seal is replaced just like a tranny seal and the fluid you are loosing is coming from the transfer case.

i have replaced mine 3 times so far and went to 4 wheel parts and they sold me an adapter to go my back side of my drive dhaft to extend it 2" it worked for 2 weeks and then ble as i was driving down the highway, ahh i was pissed, now I am thinking my U joints are wore out and noticed some wear on the slip yoke so gonna have that fixed on mon. i thought i was the only one with this problem going to put a new seal today and lock tight to try and hold it for a temp fix. will keep you informed, good luck. though i have lifted my truck 3 years ago and all of a sudden this is my problem also my catalatic conventer went out i guess for my only 2 issues with 75k miles 1 owner, not to bad.
