Transmission Servicing... How important is it???
I have a 06 F150 with auto transmission. The dealership is trying to get me to bring it in for it's "45 K Transmission Service". Of coarse I will not be taking it to the dealership if I do get it done, but how important or necessary is it to get this done and how often should it be done?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I wouldn't blow off the dealer until you get their price; it might not be higher and seeing how your truck is still under warranty, I'd make sure whoever does anything to your truck knows what they're doing. A transmission flush is still pretty basic and any shop that has a ATF exchanger should be safe. There's a lot of cheap shops out there but you're taking your chances unless you know they are reputable AND have experience with Ford engines. I've found that out the hard way...
Well, its not still under warranty. I just bought it a couple weeks ago with 45k on it and since theyve called me twice wanting my $. They want $159.99 to do it. I assume they are way high like dealerships are?
For peace of mind, I'd do it. You don't have any idea how the previous owner (s) treated the truck. I think I'd want to start off with a fresh load of fluid myself.
Factory recommendations are every 150k under "normal" service, but that drops to 30k under any kind of severe service - stop and go driving, towing, carrying heavy loads, operation in extreme climates or dusty conditions, offroading, etc.
The price you have been quoted is quite in line with the labor rate in most large cities. You could probably save 30 bucks by taking it to Jiffy Lube, but I would trust a dealer LONG before I'd trust those idiots.

I'd do it too. So then you know it was done and won't have to worry about it.
$156 don't sound bad. It costs me $100 to do it myself.
