E4od

i have a 2000 f150 5.4 4x4 7700 with 87k and a E4OD auto tranny. i noticed that its leaking cant find from were(i think the little round black seal)is there a common leaky spot? anyway im going to change the fluid and was wondering what kind to use. it says mercon but im not sure. oh and one more thing, what color is mercon and mercon 5 supposed to originally be?

You can't get Mercon any more, the current spec is for Mercon V. All the aftermarket fluids I've seen are red.

oh yea one more thing, how many quarts does my tranny take?

Actually a 2000 7700 will have a 4R100, not a E4OD - essentially the same tranny. There were 2 different ones used that year - so it will be either 17 or 18 quarts from dry fill. Just a pan drop will need 6.5 quarts. You should have a torque converter drain plug, and I recommend you drain it too.

oh, my door jam stick said i had E, which i looked up and it said it was the E4OD

"E" is also the code for a 4R100, which replaced the E4OD. The last year for E4OD was 98, and the first year for 4R100 was 99.
