Lost between 3rd and od HELP

my 2000 f150 4.6 runs fine and shifts well in all gears as long as I don't go over 40-45 mph. faster than that it will shift into od..then back out to 3rd..sometimes in either ratio it revs up the engine as it looks for 3rd or OD. I slow down and it is better.... is it the shift solenoids or the OD band burned up...it used to shutter sometimes too..

It could be a sticking valve in the valve body or a problem with OD in either the servo or band.

Or, it could be a more general failure that gunked that part of things up first.

Your o/d band is kaput. Personally from experience, mine died last year and had it replaced and the tranny overhauled. It cost only a bit more but well worth it considering things were ageing and might as well replace it while its out. Clutch discs, valves, seals etc, common fail spots were upgraded and refreshed, good money spent. It's fine to drive around with o/d button off right? This buys alot of time.
