simple questions please enlight me

hey guys whats up. im new to the forum but ive had my ford since i could drive and its amazed me more and more the more and drive it ha!

but thats not why im here. i have a couple of questions regarding the trans.
i have a 01 f150 5.4L 4x4 white supercab stepside.
my first question is what exact transmission do i have in this truck? i was told it was a d70? somethin to that sort. an ammco worker told me this the other day when i asked him a couple of questions.

2nd question is at what rpm does your trucks that are similar? im pretty sure its a 4spd with an overdrive. the problem im having is its not like shifting into overdrive. itll just stay in 4th. :/
is this a sign of a upcoming transmission problem?
and if so how much exactly is a new trans for my truck (ballpark)

final question is how long have your trucks lasted? i know that ive seen on here about the forum that has some guy doing 315k on the orignial motor and thats definitely a testamate. but i honestly use my truck. i 4 wheel it with my friends and definitely have some fun out in the dirt with it. so i cant exactly say its babied. but that does NOT whatsoever mean that i neglect it. i love my truck and keep it in the best condition i possibly can.

if any of you guys have any insight please help me out! it would be sooo greatly appreciated! :]

It's a four speed overdrive trans. That means there are four ratios in the transmission, the highest one is 0.70:1, which is an overdrive ratio. There is also a lockup torque converter, when it locks it feels just like another shift.

They usually last a long time IF they get ALL of the trans fluid changed every 30k miles. Just hanging what's in the pan isn't enough.

alright thanks. if something does go wrong what would probably go wrong first? like what parts are designed to wear out in the trans?

The clutches and bands will wear out. They are designed to wear, similar to how brakes wear. If the fluid isn't changed it loses some of it's lubrication properties and everything wears faster.
