flashing o/d light = new tranny!!!
flashing o/d light = new tranny!!!
so for two mornings in a row my o/d light flashes for a few minutes then nothing for the rest of the day. no problems noticed in shifting etc...but one time I notice the speedo is displaying "trans fault". did a bit of searching on here and see that its not that uncommon and needs to be scanned by the dealer. bumper to bumper was up about 800 (yea 36,800 right now) miles ago, but I figured I take it in anyway since I have the powertrain warranty still in effect. they check it out tell me they think they know whats wrong but need to keep it for another day or so so come pick up a loaner truck since the power train warranty covers a loaner. calls today to say a remanufactured tranny has been ordered and should be in by next wednesday. says to keep the loaner truck, 08 f150 4x2 xlt. Loving the powertrain warranty right now. I had an engine blow at 37,000 miles on my 05 Ram two years ago and they replaced it under the power train but only after three weeks of trying not to have to, and never offered a loaner. I had to borrow a friends truck for those weeks. seems I can't get a vehicle past 40,000 miles with out breaking something major and I'm not even rough on them and maintain them by the book.
so I got her back yesterday with the remanufactured tranny. drove home fine etc...whats the protocol for a new tranny? should I "baby it" for a while? does the tranny maintenance schedule start over like a new car or should I just keep the schedule based on the trucks mileage? I'm thinking that it still has some of the old tranny fluid in it but they didn't tell me anything other than you owe us $100 copay for powertrain warranty and please give us excellent response on soon to recieve service survey. anything I should be looking or listening for relative to the trans???????thanks! all this from a flashing light on the dash board. glad I didn't just try to reset the light...
