does the black blug indidcate drainable converter?

I've asked if my 01 f150 4wd supercrew with the 4r70w has a drain plug on the torque converter with mixxed results. I recently was underr the truck and I noticed it does have the round plug in the torque converter area, does the plug indicate anything for sure???? Thanks, I guess I could look and see.

Not necessarily - you have to remove it and turn it over to look for the actual drain plug.

All 2001s have a drain plug. Ford stopped installing drain plugs shortly after the start of 2002 production.

The exception would be if the TC has previously been replaced with a factory reman unit. Those don't have plugs from what I understand.

could a person drill and tap a plug in their converter and then add a weight on the opposite side for balance? If I had a vehicle without a plug, I sure would like the option of servicing the trans without an expensive "flush".

That can be done, but you have to know EXACTLY what to do. There are some highly balanced internal parts that you don't want to drill into. And then you would have to weld on a weight to counter it unless you put in a second identical plug
