Torsion bar removal???

"97 F150 Lariat ext cab automatic tranny.

Is it as simple to do as removing the load/tension and then tapping them out, minus any rust issues holding em in?
I have to replace my output shaft adapter on the rear of the tranny to the front of the tranfers case and really don't want to remove everything.
I was hoping to take the xfer case loose and slide it off the shaft and then slip in the new adapter...doable?
How much does the xfer case weigh?
Thanks,
MM

its pretty easy getting the t bar bracket off... leave the bars in the A-arms tho. I just R&I'ed my tranny, and put the transfer case back on just by laying on my back, its an easy 100lbs.
