Overdrive on all the time

I just want to post for a friend here.
He has a 2001 F250.
He says his overdrive will not come off.
When he is towing, he tries to shut the overdrive off, but it will not shut off.
Is this an easy fix?
Anyone else hear of this before?

It's not unusual.

Take the plastic cover off of the steering column. Look at the small wires where they enter the shifter handle. They rub and wear through. Either repair the wires or replace the shifter for about $50.

Or it may actually be the button that he pushes is bad. A friend of mine had the E-250 van and after the manual told the "mechanics" to replace the transmission (twice) some intelligent young kid (19 years old) says what if it is just the button. Bingo, after 2 trannies it was a $3.82 button. Good luck

I am going to his house this week, and going to look at it.
I will take pics if this is what it is.
Thanks.

Okay I think I figured the pic thing out. Here is what I got.

I ended up having to remove all the wires, as they were too short to try to reconnect them.
Trying to find some wires that small was a job on its own. Only 3 wires, but only 4 strands of wire in each one.
I ended up using phone cable. I removed 3 wires from it, and soldered it to the original wires, and made sure the connections were in the shifter column so you can't see them.
His button now works, and everything is good!
Thanks for pointing me in the right area!!!
