how can i tell i need the fluid changed

how can i tell i need the fluid changed

what are some things to look for to know you need your transmission fluid changed

when i checked my fluid it looked ok but when i drained the tourque converter it was dirty. i wouldnt look for symptoms i would just change every 30k if you tow/offroad or 50k normal use

The thing to look for is when the fluid has 30k miles it needs to be changed.

*More than 30,000 miles on original fluid
*Discolored fluid...not pink/clean red looking
*faint burnt smell. Doesn't smell clean
*Poor tranny performance..usually not noticeable since it sneaks up on you gradually...you get used to it!!

ok thanks

on the 01 and 02 models can it be changed at home and is there anything special i need

i was told these years and before have a plug to get the fluid from the torque converter is that correct if so wheres it at

'01 trucks have a drain plug in the torque converter. Only the very first '02 trucks do.
