I can't lie, I am quite happy with my manual shift t-case. The old touch-drive setup on my Bronco was problematic, and lead to a few hairy situations. I think a good old shift stick is fine with me... now if only Ford would offer the 5.4L with a beefy manual transmission.

you could always get a 250 with tha 5.4 & a stick

Next tranny I put in, if $$ permits, will be a ZF 6 speed with the NVG t-case from a 250.
My 3 inch body lift will accommodate the taller tranny. I lost count of how many M5ODs that I broke.

Also a point to mention, with the '97-'03 vacuum lock center axle disconnect, and the '04+ integral vacuum lock hubs, ya ain't gonna swap in a set of manual warns like on an ole Dana 44 or 60.
