Don't drop the valve body. You will get yourself in over your head unless you are experienced inside an automatic transmission.
If you only drain the pan you'll need 5 to 7 quarts. If you drain the torque converter, too, you'll need 12 to 14 quarts.

That's a bad comparison. An engine is designed to drain all of the fluid by removing the drain plug and the filter. A trans isn't like that.
