Question Should I? (kinda long)

I have a 98 F150 with the 4r70w with 165,000 miles, it shifts fine and doesn't seem to have any problems. My question is, what does a shift improvement kit do? Also, is a shift kit good for preventative maintenance? My dad is telling me to just use an additive as preventative maint.(Lucas oil). I trust his input since he does work for FoMoCo as heavy mech repair, I don't think he has the faith in me to do it(I will have help w/ this). He is in the mind set of "If it ain't broke don't fix it", which is all good except, if I can extend the life of the trans I want to. I have seen the clips of the foaming Lucas additives and what they do (foaming) and I don't really want to put more pressure on it.

I already have a B&M shif improver kit, should I use it or EBAY it?

Thanks,

Justin

a shift kit changes the rating of the relief valve in the valve body raising the pressure so you get firmer shifts.
why didn't the manufacturer do this it the first place????

Me, i change my fluid regularly and add some lube guard for a shudder preventive.
