E40D Question

Hey. I have a buddy with a F250 and they said the E40D tranny doesn't circulate fluid in reverse, so if I tow in reverse for a few minutes and shift into drive, the input shaft seal and leak tranny fluid. Is this true??

No, it isn't true. The E4OD circulates fluid any time the engine is running.

What happens in reverse is that no air flows over the cooler. At the same time reverse is usually low speed, so there is a lot of torque converter slip. This high slip makes a lot of heat, combined with the low air flow means the trans heats up FAST in reverse.
