Hard 1-2 Upshift, O/D off Light Flashing

My 2000 f150 4.2l 4x4 has been having a hard 1-2 upshift and most of the time the od off light would flash on and off. I thought that it was the typical broken accumulator spring, but I pulled it out today and the springs were not broken. It has a white bottom spring and a brown top spring. It also has the new style steel accumulator with molded seals. Does anyone know what else could be wrong??

I probably am no help, but my 99 also had the white spring in the bottom instead of the pink one that I think most other people did. I didn't have the flashing light though and my 99 is a 5.4 4wd. The 4.2 may have the white one for some reason, but I don't know.

I noticed that sometimes it will shift pretty good, but other times it will shift really hard. It almost feels as if there is a delay between 1st and 2nd gears. The o/d off light will usually begin to flash right at the 1-2 upshift.

You are going to need to go get the codes for the transmission scanned. Autozone and the like can't do that. The cheapie scanners won't do the transmission codes. You will need to get to a dealer or a shop with an NGS or high quality aftermarket scanner like a Snap On.

2001 f-150 4.6L transmission

i had similiar problem OD light was flashing, i took it to dealer, they said it was a harness failure, then dropped pan for replacement and found large metal chunks, not just the norm . they recommened replacement of trans, so here i am $3120.81 later with a replacement that has a 3yr/36,000 warranty and i still have problems with the new one, taking it back tommorrow, i recomend dropping the pan for inspection and changing fluid every 15,000

slofan, did you also have the hard 1-2 upshift problem? Is the the new tranny doing the exact same thing the old one did?
