Question anyone here ever change out a FTVB?

Factory Tech Valve Body that is.
Mike from Troyer Performance says I need one and that's good enough for me. For 7 years I thought I'd have to live with this slow shifting trans.
I have a 1997 F150 with a 4.6L with 68K miles on it, fluid/filter last changed out at @ 30K miles so it's due anyway.
So what happens after you drop the fluid and valve body? Springs and ***** go bouncing around or down the drain? Or is it pretty much straight foward? A bolt in?
Thanks for any input.

You have a 4R70W, so it'll be bit different than the 4R100 valve body in that article.

The only thing that will fall out when you remove the valve body is the 2-3 shift accumulator piston's support disc and spring. If the instructions don't call for removing the spring all together, you'll need to reinstall it correctly. The disc needs to have the dome side facing down so it is supported by the VB. The 2-3 accumulator is on the passenger side, at the back of the transmission. In the photo, it's installed wrong and this caused 2-3 shift problems.

4R70W valve body The check ***** are on the other side of the top side gasket. All of the springs are located on the sides of the VB. It's not too complicated. Being in "Pest Control" I'm sure you'll do fine.

When you reinstall the VB, use the proper toque sequence. 8 lb-ft works well.
