R4570w Overdrive

Just bought a 2001 Screw, 5.4, R4570W trans. I plan on going about 250miles on a fishing trip, will be pulling a 16 ft. boat with a 50 hp. engine.
Will be travling @ 70 mph, should I do it with overdrive on (4th gear) or disable the overdrive at the end of the shifter?
At 70 mph I turn 2000 rpm with overdrive on, I don't know what it would turn with it off.

how heavy is the boat do you know?

The general rule is if your hauling somthing have od off. However at that speed youll probably be pushing 3000 rpm or so which i think is a tad high for a 250 mile trip. I dont tow much, only haul things, but never that far. Id feel kinda uncomfortable with my engine at 3000 rpm for 4 hours but thats just me, its probably ok.

The boat is fiberglass, Approx. weight 1000 lbs. (with engine) at most on a single axle trailer.

Do you have an owner's manual? It says you can tow in overdrive as long as the transmission isn't frequently shifting in and out of overdrive.

With that small of a load I don't think you will have any problem towing in overdrive.

If you run 2000 RPM in overdrive you will run 2850 RPM with the overdrive off.
