Question Transmission Fluid

I was reading some of the posts here and several people said that the 4R70 transmission requires mercon v fluid. My truck is a 1997 with 4.6 liter. I just had my trans serviced by the dealer and they used ford part # xt-2-qdx fluid. My dip stick says mercon and so does my manual. So which is it, mercon or mercon v ?

You can use both in the 97 4R70W.MerconV is a synthetic fluid.I'm about to do a complete flush on my 97 4R70W and am going back with MerconV.

The original fluid in the '97 4R70W was MERCON. MERCON V is backwards compatible with this transimssion. MERCON V will resist shudder better than MERCON, and shudder is a common problem with the 4R70W.

MERCON V is not necessarily synthetic. The factory fill MERCON V is a synthetic blend.
