plug-in shift kits?

is there a shift kit that i dont have to get into the tranny for? i like the concept of the microtuner, but i dont want to have to use premium fuel all the time. so far, it seems like my only option is a flip-chip. is there any thing else that would give me firmer shifts without having to use premium fuel and get into the tranny? thanks for any and all help!

Don't use anything electronic to tune your shifts, at least in a 4R100 or E4OD. There are problems with pump wear when raising line prssure electronically.

it appears that i have the 4r70w, does this one have a problem with electronically altering the shifts, with pump wear?

I don't really know a lot about the 4R70W, I'm working ona valve body for it, but I haven't worked on them for very long, in general I would avoid any electrocninc way of altering shift stategy, Ford uses different valve bodies to do it, and if there was a safe way to do it with code I'm sure they would do that rather than manufacture different parts.

I have had one of those B&M ShiftPlus thingies in my 97 4.6l for over 50,000 miles, with no problems. It is now turned to it's "stock" position since I have the MicroTuner in place.

IMHO, you'd be better off going to a MicroTuner as you don't have to go into either the PCM or the tranny, and you get all the bennies of adjustable shift points and pressure, as well as upping the trucks HP and overall driveability. IN addition, you can use the M-Tuner too diagnose and clear error codes thrown by the PCM.
