Strange Noise at 50 MPH

Hey Guys,

My 03 XLT Screw is making a strange noise @ 50 MPH. If I accelerate up to 50, my truck seems to make a strange whiny kinda noise.

The funny thing is, I can't tell if its from the front or the rear. My wife says she thinks the rear although I just can't tell to be honest.

If I acclerate above 50, its not there. If I take my foot off the gas and then accelerate again to 50, it comes back every time.

Do you think it could be something with a vacuum hose (if its from the front) or something whining in the tranny?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Hmmm

DEFINATELY sounds like the transmission..If it's a whining noise, it's more than likely the tranny...Does it like...wind up? Is it a low whine, then does it grow more and more high pitched until it stops? If so, then It's the tranny...BRING IT BACK!!! And if they say "oh, they all do that", DONT BACK DOWN! They say things like that alot...someone on here took a vehicle back (I forget who) and there was a serious noise...The dealer told him that they all make that noise...So the guy (from here) told him to cut the bull§hit and just fix it. And fix it they did...So fight with everything ya've got! lol...Good luck, and keep me posted!

I plan on taking it back to the dealer for sure. Does anyone have any idea on what specifically the problem might be?

Are there any TSB's for it... etc? I would like to know as much as I can before I call the dealer and bring it back in.

Thanks,

Jim

sounds like a rear axle whine to me...

mine does the same thing at about the same speed. i just haven't had the time to make the local shop investigate, but i will before the warranty is up...!

UPDATE:

Took my truck into the dealer for regular service and mentioned the rear axle whine.

Took a test drive with a tech. He heard it and said it sounded like the ring and pinion.

So... they had my truck all day, did the service, supposedly replaced the ring and pinion in the differential.

On the way home guess what? Its STILL whines at 50 MPH. Have i been duped? Or does the problem lie somewhere else?

Thoughts please.

TIA,

Jim
