hitch ball drop??

All,

what would be a good drop amount for the ball on my truck:

'07 XLT 4X4, 2.5" level, 32" tires

i've been looking at other trucks around town and see anywhere from 2" to 6" or even more...

i wont be towing that often but we will be moving soon and will rent a uhaul flat-bed trailer to drag the Harley to our new home.

thanks in advance!

Most bumper pull trailers have a tongue approx. 16" off the ground. By putting a ball mount that located the top mounting surface of the ball mount about (not the top of the ball) 16" will make 90% of the trailers produced almost perfectly level. If you will be towing heavy loads that will sag the truck you might want to get a ball mount that locates the ball an inch or two higher.

So grab a tape measure while the truck is on level ground and see what you need to get the ball mount at 16".

How about an adjustable ball mount? Can be had for about $50.

I'm currently looking around for the part that goes in the receiver of the hitch that comes with the towing package. I pulled my trailer up behind the truck and it looks like it needs zero drop or lift. Trouble is, all the ones I've seen have at least a 2 inch drop to them.

Hmmm, maybe I can justify lifting the truck to the wife. Sorry honey, the trailer's gotta be level, so I need this lift kit and bigger tires to make it work.

A 2" drop ball mount installed upside-down is a zero.

They aren't just drops, they can be used to raise also.

My draw bar is reversible - it can be a 2" drop or a 3/4" lift. On my truck, the 3/4" lift is perfect for most utility trailers. If zero looks right, a 3/4" lift would be right when you load a few things into the bed of the truck.
