Replacement radiator.. Heavy duty?

2000 F-150,4.6, auto trans, with heavy duty tow package...

Bought truck new with "heavy duty" tow package. Few years later, got a letter from Ford about some class action suit and please take to dealer for radiator replacement upgrade at no charge. Did this.

Now, four years later, this radiator is leaking badly, and I guess it's time for a replacement.

I've run into a snag.. I've called the local parts stores (NAPA etc.) and they are showing just a standard radiator. I'm pretty sure that the "standard" is not what I need as I tow my tarpon fishing boat long distances. I really need the biggest and best for the truck.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Internet stores where a HD radiator could be ordered??

Every major city will have a radiator shop. They will have lots of options as far as what you can put in your truck... almost always higher quality than you can find at an auto parts store.

Give a few a call and see what they say...I'm sure they will hook you up.

Make sure you get one that does not have plastic end caps. Most modern radiators have plastic end caps and that is what almost always gives out first.

Why don't you just take your current one to a local radiator shop and have it repaired?? You'll be surprised what a good shop can do.

Also...proceed with caution with autopartswarehouse.com

I have purchased from them...great prices and fast delivery. ZERO customer service and a fookin nightmare if you ever had to exchange anything.

Still shopping...found some at the above mentioned web site but I am leary of buying from them unless I'm dead certain it's something I wont have to return. www.rockauto.com has some too. I have a huge Ford truck junk yard near my house so I will check them out and a local radiator shop I've used before I make a final decision.

Gotta do something soon cause headed out over the mountains mid September and I want this and my new tranny cooler before the trip.

Yeah, I'm leary of things like that too... Even when I 'talked' to the guy at that rad place I found on the net, he did not 100% 'say' it was a 2 core rad!

Anyway, good luck with the search and let us know if you find one!
