Reverse lights wire color for towing

Question here for a newbie. I'm trying to splice a flat 5 to my Fords flat 4, but have no idea what color the reverse lights wires so I can hook up the 5 flat to my 4 flat?

there's a white section of the tail light where the reverse bulb is on most of the f150's so, pop the tail light out and look at that bulb. there's two wires running to them - black is your ground, the other is the reverse light, tap it and run it down to the bottom of the truck. voila

Flat 4 has no reverse?? Flat 5 has no reverse?? I've got a round 7 and the reverse is the center pin (AUX)....

I thought the most a flat 5 would do is maybe give you E brakes to the trailer??

What the heck do you need reverse lights on a trailer for anyway??

It's not like they are going to illuminate enough to guide you while backing up a trailer at night???

There is a relay under the hood for 'backup lights', but I think it's only wired for a round 7??

Good luck!

Mitch

I agree with Mitch, but to answer his question the wire is brown with a green trace.

I think if you had the lights mounted close to front of the trailer on each side, they would light it up down the sides to see better on backing up.Just something I came up and may do some time on my trailer,if I get into using at night alot.

The flat 5 has reverse as the 5th wire. Alot of boats have a "lock out" so you can back up without locking the surge brakes. The "lock out" is just a linelock in the brake line.
