Who would pull who: F-150 vs. Tahoe?

Last night my buddy back out of a truck pull contest with me. Now I don't need to hear about what could brake, I see it all the time. All I would like to know is from the more experienced in towing who do you would think would win. My buddy has a 2003 Chevy Tahoe Z71 with the 5.3 vortec and rear locker. He's pushing stock 285 bhp, and 325blbs. I have a 1998 F-150 5.4 trition no locker off-road pkg. stock 235 bhp, and 335blbs. He has 31 in. BFG all terrains, i have 33 in. Yokohama Geolander A/Ts. He was all for the pull until I asked him the horsepower in his truck, we went on line and compared and then he backed out. It seems that he has more high end power, but I've got the low down torque. Yet in his favor he has more wieght on the rear as an SUV with the locker. I really want to hook up to him, but since he chickened out I would like to know what your alls opinion would be. And if we ever do I will get a video promise. Thanks

Id have to say the Tahoe just because its heavier. Its probably going to come down to whoever is the better driver though. Whoever is the best at maintaining traction is most likely going to win. Thats where the weight of the Tahoe is going to help it.
I guess I have to ask, why do you even care? It just sounds kinda immature to risk doing some expensive damage to your truck just for the bragging rights of, "mine can outpull your's".

I hate to break the news to you but with his rear LOCKER & WEIGH he will own you....even with less torque, it's all about traction between you two.......

Yeah, thats what I was thinkin too. maybe I should try a pickup! I care cuz it's fun...you should see what I just got back from doing. My truck is my toy, thats what they have always been to me. And that is why I ride ford. I toss and throw my trucks all over, and never really have any major issues.

If thats your thing. I was big into going muddin' and hooking up with people when I was in highschool and I guess I grew out of it.
Ive got my snowmobile and thats my thrill in life. Considering all the parts I break on my sled in the short 3 month a year riding season and how expensive that is, I wouldnt want to imagine how expensive it would be if my truck were my toy.
I wasnt trying to put you down or anything, now that you explained that your truck is your toy I understand. Do your thing.

Who would pulll who?

Put the F150 on a trailer and let the Tahoe pull it....why wear out a perfectly good FORD.

Hooking up end to end is not going to determine who's truck is better.... If it was, that's what they would do at the tractor pulls and such.... It's how far your truck can pull a set weight that means anything.... Or how fast you can get to a set mph towing the same weight from a stop.... Hitch up a #5000 trailer to each one and see who gets to 60 mph first... Or go up a 6% grade and see who gets to the top faster....

Another test would be to find a really steep incline and see who can go the farthest.... If you both go over the top or get a 'full pull', then you have to adjust your parameters...

But just hooking up and nailing the gas pedal does not really prove anything IMO.... Although, I would admit, it would be 'fun'!!

None of that matters.

All that matters is whose point of attachment is higher. Flip your drop draw-bar so it goes up, and use the shortest chain/cable you can find. Loop it several times to take up the length (tell him it's for extra strength) and make SURE it's tied onto your truck higher than on his.

You can walk him like a dog as far as you want.

Try it with one of those old lifted Toyotas with a worn-out 4-banger against your truck, and it'll drag you around.

Thanks everyone...been hearing the same thing...not about power, but height, weight and traction. Your all right, it won't prove much, but it would be fun. I think I might suggest the 5000lb pull to him...he might be up more for that. WOULD it matter that he can already out gun me 0-60?

Why would you cheat him? I have to much pride to give myself an advantage just so my truck looks "tougher". Just make it an even pull and leave the rest to the trucks.

My mom has a tahoe exactly like that. Same everything you listed except the locker, but it has some traction control thats computer controled. It kicks *** when it comes to traction. It would probably drag most trucks around. Ive taken it through mud, trails, and sand. It has some goodyear eagle performance street tires, and when I take it out it does better than a lot of trucks with mud terrains.

"Cheating" would be chaining yourself to a D9 Cat - what I'm describing is the BEST way for you to hook up so you embarass him. As I said: the truck's capabilities are really insignificant, so you're not actually testing the trucks, regardless of how you hook up.

But if you want to make it SLIGHTLY more about the trucks, then you have to use the LONGEST cable or chain you can find, but try to keep the trucks' tires on the same surface. Then it comes down to who has the most weight on the back tires, and the tires' traction. It's still not about horsepower or torque.

i dont think you would have a problem takin him to 60, with or without a load behind you, ive done my fair share of beatin 5.3 chevys in the towing with my 02 5.4. you might hafta worry bout 60-100 without a load though, those chevys have some amazing top end for a truck! but they lag hard with a load behind em! all i hafta say is, i love torque!

Worried about weight? To make a fair comparison on true pulling strength, you should match his weight. Add some stuff in your bed. Nothing wrong with making it fair in one point.
