What and how to mount brake controller

What do you all use for a brake controller and how did you mount it in to look half decient? I was thinking of getting one with a digital display as I dont use it everyday and currently take it off after each use, but its a pain to get setup to just the right spot.

Also where I connected it on the 04 f150 was using the OBD2 mounting holes and just used thumb screws to secure it each time. I tried it on the 04 F350 and found that spot to be a lonnnnng reach and I think it would be hard to reach it in a hurry if needed. Any other sudjestions.

thanks

Dave

In the Super Duty trucks there is a little recess in the lower dash panel to make room for your hands to shift a manual T-case shifter. Its to the right of the dash access panel above the floor pedals. The little recess makes a perfect place to install them so you won't knock them around or accidently remove them.
In the SD struck most people leave them in as they are pretty tucked out of the way. Also by mounting it higher on the dash instead of under or on the bottom it is easier to reach.

The best one is the Tekonsha Prodigy, hands down. I have mine mounted on the lower left on the factory mounting tab. Using the Prodigy you almost can't tell the trailer is back there when braking. Do a search on this forum for "Prodigy" and you will see what everyone is saying about them.

Hey David!
I have the same Prodigy controller and mounted mine on the right side of the dash over the gas pedal, I drive with my left hand the most and chose the right side for easy access incase of a panic stop when you need to manually control the trailer brakes.
I mounted mine by using the provided screws and drilled into the lower plastic panel, I added some double stick tape to help hold and minimize vibration.

Thats where i had mine in the F150 just over in the Obd2 holes. worked perfect till the drealer went looking for the obd2 port one day. :-)

I tried it in the F350 but it seemed like a longer reach to get to it.

I have my Prodigy mounted exactly like Newt. It took all of 20 minutes start to finish. The hardest part was getting the drill out to drill the two mounting holes for the bracket.

This location does not get in the way of entry or exit at all. My legs have never even come close to the controller. I do not bump the controller with my left leg while driving. This is an excellent location for the controller.

Prodigy might cost a little more but it is well worth the investment. Buy it and cry once at the price. Buy a cheaper controller and cry everyday thereafter at having bought the discount unit.

I had mine mounted a little different. It's angled upward so I can see it easier.
