Question Moog or Ford?

2004 F150 Supercrew 4x4

I am replacing my worn out stock shocks and leveling my truck with Bilstein 5100s. I have read on here and other sites that many people have had issue with their coil springs breaking. My front coil springs are intact, but have over 100k on them. I do live in the salt belt and we have severe roads around here so I think I am going to replace my springs as well while I am doing the shocks. The question I have is what springs to get. I have "U" coded springs on my truck now. The dealership wants $120 each for the "U" code springs. On Rock Auto I see that the Moog 81118 replacement springs are $68 for the pair. I have been reading and searching but I am having trouble finding if the Moog springs are good, bad or the same as far as durability and if the Moog springs are the same rate and height as the Ford ones. Can anyone answer these for me or push me towords another spring.

I should also note that I want the truck to sit level obviously so I am looking for springs that are going to be similar to stock height and rate. Thanks.

Have no idea about Moog springs but have used their front end components and they were excellent.

Thanks for the reply TruckGuy24. How many miles have you had them on? Also as far as rate and height are they the same?

I would have just gone with Rancho Quiklifts. 2.5" level complete assembly.

I'm with Darren, but why are you replacing them again?

I am going with Bilsteins over other brands because I like the way they ride and their durability. I have used them on previous cars, trucks and suvs and have never had an issue. Are you asking why I am replacing the springs or the shocks? Shocks are because my originals are worn out. Springs are because they have 108k on them, they are rusted, have read other people have had issues with them breaking due to rust and I am already taking them off so might as well replace them so I dont have problems and have to tear into my suspension again.

I agree with its good to replace the road abuse taking parts. I just find it easier to get an all-in-one assembly to install. These are my Rancho Quiklift loaded struts which give a 2.5" level, and rear shocks. Paid $520 and am getting a $120 back as a rebate from Rancho. $400 for this.

I had the Bilstein 5100s on my 2004. Loved them at first. Hated how they were 'too-firm' for daily driven use a few months later.

That does look like a pretty good setup. I'm not going to deny that I wished that Bilstein made it all in one...oh well. I agree that Bilsteins are very stiff but I kinda like that. I know its not everyone's cup of tea from some of my previous passengers comments. Ha!
