04-08 Sway Bar End Links

I just received two Moog link kits for my 04 4x4. I see the nut and the notched end on the factory ones to hold the shaft while the nut is turned. My question is will I need a fork to separate the link from the sway bar itself? I see that the shaft is tapered and the sway bay is spring steel so I'm not sure if just hitting the stud with a hammer will get it to release from the sway bar. I've searched and that is how I determined that my noise is most likely the links but I could not find the answer to my question.
Thanks

I'll answer my own post, you can get the studs out with a hammer. You have to do a lot of striking to get it to pull out because the sway bar absorbs most of the energy. Took me about 1.5 hours with the tires still on to do both sides.

I have no idea what you are doing. The end links attach to the sway bar very similar to shocks. There are two rubber bushings squeezed together with a nut and steel washers top and bottom of the shaft and the sway bar 'eye' is in the middle. Just take the nut off and the link is free from the bar (after the nut is removed from the LCA that is). It is easier to remove both sides at the same time, then the sway bar will just move out of the way. No hammer required at all.

Have you ever even looked under your truck? The 04 and up trucks have end links that actually have ball joint studs on both ends. The control arm end is fully threaded but the sway bar end is tapered with threads on the end, just like a ball joint or tie rod end.

As I said, there is only ONE ball and stud on the links, on the LCA end. I have replaced mine twice now, I DO know what I am talking about. It is possible the 04 MY may be different from the 07 MY, if so, then I am in the wrong. On mine it's an easy job to change those links out. Just a word of caution, I had bad luck with a couple of the MOOG links, even with ample greasing, they didn't last long.

These fit 04 and 05. My sway bar connection has a ball joint that is actually 90 degrees from the control arm side. Looks just like an outer tie rod except the threaded end has a ball joint in it too. Hate to hear that about the Moog links. I greased both ends....hope they last.

That answers the question then, 06 on up to ? use a totally straight link into the sway bar. http://www.rockauto.com/getimage/get...K80338_TOP.jpg

I bought the duralast at autozone looked identical to the moog in that picture. It was cheaper to get the duralast than the moog from Oreilly though. Does the moog have a lifetime warranty?

That's a good deal then. If you have parts stores like the ones around here all you will have to do is keep your receipt and they will give you new ones when they wear out.

So hit the end with a hammer? I've been trying to get this damn thing off for 45 minutes now and it just keeps turning and turning...

An update on the Moog end links - they suck. I have less than 5 thousand miles on them and the driver side is already loose. You can hear it when hitting bumps in the road and can actually see it move up and down when you rock the truck. Sam1947 hit the nail on the head when he said he had issues with Moog. Just ordered two Motorcraft replacements.

Same here....Just noticed I shredded the rubber bushing from the coupling on my Mevotech sway bar end link replacements I got from Rock Auto. Only had about 2k miles on them. Lame.
