Removing Auto Spring Leveling Kit

I am removing the Auto Spring Kit and installing the Bilstein leveling shocks. Nuts were orginally provided in the Auto Spring kit for the strut tower. Do I need new nuts or I can I reuse all of the nuts that are in there now?

I think so yes , they should be nylon lock nuts. You should be able to reuse them and re torque them.

You are not supposed to reuse the nuts, even nylocks. That said, I would, but I'd use a little thread locker on them to be safe.

I'm not sure if you are supposed to reuse them or not...However I have removed the nuts on my leveling kit at least 4 times and reinstalled with no problems.

Do you guys know what size nuts these are that hold strut tower?

These are the ones I am referring to in step 8. It says: Reinstall the strut back in the upper strut tower and start nuts on the three studs that extend through the tower. Use the nuts provide in the kit. Torque to 35 ft. lbs.

I am assuming you need to reinstall these nuts even without the leveling spacer, correct?. So I might as well use new nuts. Mine look a little rusty.

The directions say the upper strut nuts are 15 mm. So if I go to the hardware store and get any 15 mm nuts, they will work?

I'm not sure what size hardware you need or if you need them at all, but they say grade 8 zince plated nylock nuts on their website. Hope this helps.

Maybe. What they are referring to is the wrench size you need to use to remove the nut. They are likely a M8 nut. But metric nuts can have different thread pitch. The easiest thing to do it to go to the store, with wrench in hand, and in the parking lot, remove the nut you want to replace. Go inside, and run that nut over a bolt they have on hand to confirm its size.

Of course remember to re-install the nut you removed for the drive home....

Thanks, guys. I looked into getting some new nuts, but it was either too expensive ($10+ a piece at Ford) or I wasn't able to find any before the scheduled install. The original nuts were reused. Auto Spring is gone, Bilstein 5100 shocks are in and it rides like a dream now.

Really? The Bilsteins gave you a better ride over the autospring kit? I thought the 5100's were stiffer shocks.

Were your old shocks really worn?

x2, I found after a year of ride experience the 5100s were a big mistake for a daily driven truck.

And my Bilstein kit for my old 2004 truck came with all necessary hardware, including nuts.
