Coil Spring test?

What's a good check on the condition of your front springs?

I replaced the front shocks last year, and found driverside was bad; other was fine.

You could tell it right off the bat, the *difference* after the replacement. But due to the subjectivity of our experience,( philosophical) the subtle drift into something less "better" escapes the attention; you dont stand up and take notice of a leaky shock.

I suspect my springs may a bit' south' after a ride down an undulating road with peaks and valleys. Real wavy like.

Any tricks or thoughts?

Thanks,

MLD

That's why when it comes time to do mine I'm just going to get the whole assy. No compressing springs and it's $100 per pair more than just the shocks.

Good idea.^

One day my dad took his 94 f150 springs out and he said, "you should have seen the difference in length." My comment, "wow, the old a lot shorter." "Nope, the other way around, it was about a 1/4 longer in length."

All in all I don't how you could know unless the ride was real bad.

Well, I took the truck in to get it measured, and it is only 1/2 inch low on drivers side. Said new springs would give a one inch lift over where you are now, but you're good for now.

Leaf springs squeak and they said I need new "spacers" in there. They're worn.

I'm towing soon and I thought a checkup would be prudent.

My '77 still has originals and no rear squeaks, no front sag.

Good shocks that actually dampen do increas the life of springs by curbing the oscillations.
