2006 Screw 4x2 needs shocks

Which ones are the best bang for the $$$ ? Nothing fancy needed, just looking to replace the worn out stock units. How difficult are they to install? Any "how to" guides or videos?

I was looking at some Monroe "reflex" shocks for the rear and "strut assy" for the front. The ASSY costs more than just getting the front shocks, but I think it would be cheaper to DIY the whole assy instead of paying a shop to compress the springs. Any opinions about www.rockauto.com ?

Took some pictures, it doesn't look like it would be too difficult to do. Has anybody done this on a 4x2 and how difficult was it?

The rear shocks seem cut and dry, am I missing something?

Rock Auto.com is a great site.. but the best price I found for shocks/struts was Shockwarehouse.com . I got Bilstein HD all the way around. 319.00 for the 2 front struts and 2 back shocks. with free shipping. Had a buddy do the install for me. But he did say that replacing the whole front assembly would have been easier. Hope this helps.

While you are at it replace the sway bar end link bushings at least. Make sure you put some restraint on the front coil springs before removal. You can go buy a manual for your truck.

Sway bar end bushings sound like something not too expensive or difficult to change. Truck is pushing 200k, I don't think there can be much life left in the OEM shocks...

It depends on the useage of the vehicle. If driven on bad roads it accelerates the wear. A simple wear test can reveal if replacement is needed.

Belltech Struts can be used to lower your truck up to 3" or lift it up to 2". You are able to adjust in 1/2" increments.

TSS how much for shocks all the way around with a "strut assy" on the fronts? I don't need anything fancy, just ant to replace the OEM shocks/Front Springs with 197k miles.

So that's 2 coil over shock assy's for the front and the 2 rear shocks for $320 shipped? I was trying to look up the install instructions on your website but it only shows a "drop spindle" for the 2006 supercrew. The $320 "kit" allows raise/lower or is it a basic replacement for the stock units?

If you're doing shocks in the fronts you'd still use your original coil springs, and you'd need to compress them to safely get them off.

Shoot me a PM if you want to drive down to DFW i can give you a hand with it.

I highly recommend doing the upper ball joints while you have the strut out of the truck. You're going to have to take the strut out to do the balljoints and it sucks to do the same work twice.
