Shoot me a PM if you want to drive down to DFW i can give you a hand with it.

I highly recommend doing the upper ball joints while you have the strut out of the truck. You're going to have to take the strut out to do the balljoints and it sucks to do the same work twice.
I was just going to order the coil/shock assembly, I don't mind spending a few extra $$$ to save some time/headache. If the upper ball joints/upper control arms are a high failure item that's a PITA to change later I may just order a set. I see what you mean about being a PITA to change later if not doing it at the same time as the "coil/shock assy". Do the lower ball or other suspension parts have a high failure history and should be replaced at the same time? Will replacing them affect the trucks alignment? The truck has close to 200k on the odometer and has the original shocks on it.

shocks

Go with monroe sensa trac. I got a set for my 2wd front and back off Amazon.com. I went with a 4wd part #. It gave me a lil lift over 2wd shocks plus didnt have to use the level kit in the front. Looks sweet and drives great.

if you have 200k on them you definetly need to replace them.

The strut unbolts by the 3 bolts on top, and the one massive one at the bottom. You have to remove the strut to replace the upper ball joints. I would prefer to just go ahead and do them at the same time i have the strut out so im not doing the same work twice.

With that many miles on it, I highly recommend replacing the upper aarms and ball joints, idler arm, tie rod ends and lower ball joints. And yes, you will need an alignment. Patman did my front end work and did a great job including the alignment. If you can get the truck down to him, I think it would be worth it. You can order the Moog parts online.

I 2nd that, Patman rocks when it comes to working on these trucks. He has done complete brakes and shock replacement on mine. I am not a big fan of the Bilstein shocks though. My truck rides like sh*t since i have had these shocks. We did them back in late august and today i have to crawl over speed humps or it feels like truck is going to fall apart. On the road i feel EVERY crack in the road..truck rides like a tank.
