Trying to get 5 in the rear

I'm getting ready to do the DJM 3.5 lowering kit in the front but dont want to use the 5" flip kit in the rear. I was told with flip kits you lose your payload so to stay with lowering leafs. So the question is..... Can I do 3" lowering leafs with 2" drop hangers to get the "5 in the rear"? If this will work are there any draw backs to this setup? Thanks

So by doing this will I really keep my payload and better ride? If so why doesnt everyone do shackles and leafs as opposed to a flip kit?

because flip kits use factory soft suspension, so little bumps travel alot and make you bottom out on the frame.

you wont be able to haul 1000 pounds with either setup no, but the A/F leafs are stiffer and stronger so it will take more to bottom out

We lowered a buddy's 07 SCrew with the Eibach Pro-Truck kit and 2" DJM (I think) shackles. There didn't seem to be an issue, but we also added a Firestone Ride-Rite helper bag system for towing. The truck rode fine, and even towed 6000 pounds without even filling the bags. There was a bit of a bang from the rear suspension over sharp bumps, though. Unfortunately, we never had an opportunity to diagnose this as the truck was traded in. IMPO, it was caused by bottoming out the bags as they were designed for stock height-not for a lowered setup. Some custom axle brackets would have likely solved this problem.

Anyway, long story short-Go ahead and add the shackles to your dropped springs. She'll look hot and will still work.
