need suggestions for shocks

hey guys i own a 2001 5.4l xlt 4x4 and i noticed the ride was quite rough, even more-so when i bought it in November with around 146,000 miles. It now has 155,xxx on it and i just asked the previous owner about the shocks and they are the factory shocks! and he used to tow a trailer for dirtbikes fairly often as well so i know they have to be shot! and i wanna get them replaced asap so i don't mess anything else up. Now i know bilstien's are the better end of the shocks and i'm not looking to get those. i'm looking for more of a midrange shock price wise. i don't drive off-road much. i've been told rancho's are a great choice but i'm just looking for more options! i'm going to get a quote soon from a few places nearby for what the price would be for the install. thanks guys!!

I replaced my stock shocks with Rancho 9000's. I bought them through amazon for around 85 each shipped and got a 100 rebate on top of that. I like them because they're adjustable. They have a zero to 9 setting. I run empty at setting 5 and crank the rears to 9 when I hookup to my camper. My truck in an 02 F-150 4x4 Screwcab. The 9000's are alot heavier and larger than the stock shocks. I feel I got my moneys worth. I've only put 8k miles on the truck since the install, so I can't comment on the longevity of the shocks.

I just installed the Rancho 9000 too, with my lift. I am happy with them. A lot of people on here swear by the Bilstein 5100, also.
