Differential vent tube

Hey all,

When I was installing my Rancho lift last weekend, I noticed that when I had my diff out it leaked a little 90 weight out of the vent hole. This got me thinking that if oil is leaking out, water can get in, which would be a bad thing. The hose that fits over the vent does not reach, since it was lowered by the drop brackets.

What have you guys with lifts done about this? Replaced the hose with a longer one or just not worried about it?

Thanks

Ummmm yea...just get a longer hose. Not something you want to let go because you are correct. That's why that hose runs up udder the body somewhere.

Ha. Yeah. I was wondering where the other end went, but haven't traced it out, yet.

Well, today I went out and bought a foot of 5/16th inch fuel line hose and a 5/16th" plastic coupler and everything seems to fit tight. The factory tubing looks to be some metric size and I was worried that the 5/16 tube would be too large to fit over the nipple on the differential and be secure. Everything is tight though, and I won't have to worry about water getting in there anymore

Ah. You must be talking about the rear diff, then? I've heard some folks take them as high as they can in the engine compartment and hook a fuel filter up to it too, or some kind of filter. Seems like overkill to me, unless you are fording the Mississippi.

For the front diff, Fabtech's kits come with a longer hose to use. I had to order one and it was $.89 cents.

The rear on mine still reaches without changing the vent line.
