Question Shocked Advice from 4 Wheel Parts about ProComp Suspension lift

I went into the Plano, TX 4 Wheel Parts store to get a labor quote on the 6" ProoComp Suspension install. I had planned to go with the Stage II Coli-over kit that ran about $2655 (before $400 rebate). One of the installers suggested not to go with the coil-overs because the springs tend to bend/warp a little over time (first year), and begin rubbing against the larger than stock shock. There is a lot less room between the coil and the shock, so the concept does make sense.

I have seen no mention of this on the forum so I figured I Would offer this up for comments. The fact of saving $800 bucks on the non coil-over kit sounds very attractive. It is a Road queen and will never see any true off-roading.

I like the look of the coil-overs but they are mainly hidden by the tires, too.

I think I read this a few times on here, but the guy also confirmed AAL is needed with the coil-over kit to level the FX4 (or any 06 F-150 4x4), but is not need if you go with the non-coil-overs.

One last note, there is no type of steering stabilizer available for the 06 F-150 because of the rack-and-pinion steering. Wanted to confirm this.

Thanks,
Jim

I am surprised that a 4Wheel Parts employee admitted that.
Also, Fabtech makes a dual steering stabilizer kit for the 04-08 trucks. I don't think anyone else does.

I'd research that some more, my experience with 4wheel parts staff is a **** one so I wouldn't believe everything. I know that my Ford Dealer in Tampa and my Dad's in Jacksonville both exclusively use pro comp suspension systems (not sure if they use the coil overs but I am pretty sure they do). It would surprise me if they would use them with that problem because everyone would be coming in to get that taken care of under warranty. My 2 cents.

Appreciate the feedback guys. I was surprised about the advice, too. He didn't knock ProComp per se, he just critiqued coil-overs and the tolerances between the coil and the actual shock.

The most important thing is that it made me think about spending an extra $800 bucks on something that doesn't go off-road. I have credit card in hand, and trying to decide which one. At least I have an option for a stabilizer now.

I'll look at a few more pixs and continue my research. I waited 4 years, I can wait a few more days .

Thanks all...

You could always buy the Stage 1 Pro Comp and go with some King, Fox or Bilstien coilovers.

The guy is full of ****. I have had 2 ProComp 6" lifts, both with 35" tires for more than 2 years each and had no such issue. Great kit, however I want a bigger lift.

Sold both of them because of new projects

My new project is the Rize 12" OH YA

I'd be very surprised if they use the stage 2. Most dealers use the stage 1. I'm also not surprised by the advice. Did you get it from a salesman, or a tech? They like seeing customers come back in to spend more money, not to have work done for free. So they recommend products that they have confidence in. Yes, I realize that 4 Wheel Parts and ProComp are sister-companies, but some toe the corporate line, and some don't.
