Need Some Help- I want to be taller

Ok I am kinda tired of looking at my truck as a almost lowered truck

It is a 04 FX4 with Bilstein 5100s 2" It is leveled but still feels low to me. I honestly am no where near being able to afford a suspension lift at this point. I want to eventually get a 6" lift

I'm a broke college student

I want to get the truck a little higher.

So what are my options? Body Lift, Add-a-leaf? .......

Here she is as she sits now:

Body lift will be cheapest probably although I have seen people pay enough for the kit and install to have been able to buy a 6"! What price range are you looking at spending total? I can help you from here.

I'm assuming he's going to do 35's since he is talking about going bigger than a leveling kit. Since 33's would look a bit odd. But bump the above tire question ^^

I honestly don't know what I want to spend. I am planning on getting 295/70/18 Trail Grapplers w/ MOnsters next. But I don't know anything about suspension besides lifts honestly.

I am just sick of looking at the two guys that drive 2500 series trucks and theirs are much taller than mine completely stock

I just want to get it higher for the looks, yet I still tow a boat a decent bit

Just throw out some somewhat affordable options, I had some major sag towing one of our big 22' boats today at work, I was thinking air bags or an AAL ???

Just some advice from someone who did things little by little and now I'm paying for it.

Don't buy the 295's if you plan on going with a 6" before they wear out. They will look too small, trust me I know.
Don't go with just a Body lift because 3" won't be enough and unless you plan on running 36's or bigger along with the suspension lift you will eventually buy on top of the body lift. Not to mention, gears, tuner etc... You will always want to go bigger. .

Since you tow and you have the itch to do something, get your AAL because that will benefit you in more ways than one. If you don't plan on lifting for a long time go ahead and get your 295's, it will dramatically change the look of your truck and it will appear bigger.

Also on the body lift, like Blackout07 said. You will pay $600 for the body lift and if you're having it installed plan on another $500 at least, most likely more. That leaves you only $3-400 short of a Rough Country 6" Suspension lift.

save for the 6", its absolutely the best bang for your buck. I can already tell you're unhappy with the small lift that the bilsteins gave you, and the most lift you're going to get no matter what parts you use minus a full suspension lift is 3", and I doubt you'd be happy with that in the long run.

Theres tons of deals to be had on quality lifts, new and used, just be patient and spend lots of time looking for the right deal.

So what's the best economically priced 6" lift? I don't see me spending a few grand on a lift until I pay it off (2years)

Or do what I did...I patiently trolled my local Craigslist for months until I stumbled across my Rancho. The guy bought it, installed the crossmember, then decided to go with a ProComp w/ cranked coilovers, so off the Rancho came and sat in his garage collecting dust. We haggled for weeks but I eventually gave him $650.00 for a complete, uninstalled kit (except for the crossmember) complete with 9000xls shocks and steel braided brake lines. I KNOW I got lucky, but the point is that there are deals out there if you're patient. Given the economy and the fact that Christmas is just a few weeks away, NOW is the time to check out Craigslist!

Thanks also to Indo who sold me his Diamo Karats as well!

Good luck!

Stovetop is right. I got my 7.5" fabtech for 600 and ended up selling the rear blocks and ublots for 50 bucks. Craigslist is your best friend.

I remember selling my Skyjacker for 500 as well. So just keep an eye out and you will find one.

Good point too...thanks to the Classifieds here, I sold my Bilstein 5100's (all four with coil installed), Autospring 2" spacer, front OEM skidplate, and most recently, OEM spring shackles (I have OEM 4x4 knuckles if anyone is interested!!). Come to think of it, I also sold my old chrome badges, PIE adapter, several radios and other odds and ends. There is no reason to sit on these parts as someone ALWAYS has a need for this stuff plus it offsets the cost of the NEW stuff!

Being impatient will cost you and you will regret like some of the guys above stated. save your money, do it once, and do it right! Then you will have a nice truck and no regrets!
